What to Consider When Painting Your Cabinets

Is your kitchen the central gathering spot in your home? Or, do you want to transform your bathroom cabinets from dull to inviting? Regardless of your goal, investing in professional cabinet painting services can transform the space and make it look dazzling.

How to Paint Your Kitchen or Bathroom Cabinets

Before you learn how to paint your cabinets, you’ll want to consider the following factors.

Complementary Colors

The color you choose for your cabinets should complement any adjoining rooms. Many people prefer white for their kitchen cabinets as it brightens any room. Dark cabinets are ideal in large spaces, and mid-range colors can hide splatters and sun fading.

Prep Work

Before you start painting, you’ll have to prep your cabinets. This involves removing your cabinets, sanding them and applying primer. Once you complete all of these steps, you’re ready for your first coat of paint.

DIY vs. Professional

While many people enjoy DIY projects, hiring a professional has distinct advantages. Professionals ensure clean lines without drips or bleeding edges and can paint your cabinet doors with ease. They also have the knowledge to suggest colors and primers to help you choose the best option for your home.

Cleaning Painted Cabinets

After you paint your kitchen cabinets, you’ll want a plan for keeping them clean so your new paint job continues to look beautiful. Using a damp cloth is a great way to clean up regular spills, but for tougher messes, you’ll want to try the following for an effective clean without damaging the paint:

  • Dirt and grease: Combine dish soap and warm water to make a sudsy solution and place a soft cloth in the mixture. Use the cloth to remove the grease using circular motions, and then use another cloth and soap-free water to remove any suds or additional spots. Dry the cabinet with a soft cloth.
  • Tough grease and stains: Mix two cups warm water, one cup vinegar and one tablespoon baking soda and place a soft cloth in the mixture before using it to remove grease and stains. You can apply a vinegar and water solution to the stains and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it off. Use a cloth and fresh water to wipe off the mixture and dry the cabinets.
